The Cinema was set up in 2025 by a team of volunteers. We are a not-for-profit organisation, so any financial surplus we may make is invested back into the Cinema.
Most of the people you will meet at our Cinema are volunteers, although we do have a few paid staff.
We aim to show a wide variety of films, concentrating on those that are not readily available at local commercial cinemas. We programme world cinema, classics and independent films as well as family and children’s films.
From time to time we hold “cinema events” where we invite speakers, or hold Q&As with a panel.
The cinema is hosted by the Maltings in its 242 seat auditorium and large screen, and the Maltings team run a bar for us where you can buy drinks, coffees, snacks and ice cream.
We want our cinema to be a warm and welcoming place where people can meet and have a drink or a coffee in addition to seeing a film. You are welcome to take your drink into the cinema.

You can buy tickets on our website, elycinema.org.uk or in person at the box office. Unfortunately we are not able to take cash, so all payments are by card.
Film tickets are non-refundable unless we have had to cancel a showing.
Yes, the bar is run by the City of Ely Council team at the Maltings, and has a very competive price list. You can also buy hot drinks, snacks and ice cream. All profit from the bar goes directly to support the City Of Ely and The Maltings venue.
You can take anything bought at the bar into the Cinema.
There is a large completely free car park approximately 20 metres away in Ship Lane, Ely, CB7 4BB.
