Ely Museum tells the story of the fens and the people who lived here.

The galleries tell the fascinating stories of this region, from the warm Jurassic seas that were once home to enormous prehistoric creatures, to the early settlers of Ely. The museum tells the story of the transformative 17th century drainage scheme that changed the area from marshy wetlands, to rich and fertile farmland.

Based in the Old Gaol, see the cells filled with graffiti left behind by prisoners as they whiled away their days, and see the collections of the Cambridgeshire Regiment who fought both at home and abroad.

The galleries tell the story of modern Ely & East Cambridgeshire too, from school days and skating on the frozen fens to more recent events and the changing High Street.

A range of temporary exhibitions throughout the year, interactive trails for children to enjoy and a programme of events too, visit our website for more information.
